Downtown push makes homeless more homeless?

August 27, 2008 by wichitahomeless

Greetings,

While most are looking forward to a long weekend due to labor day the homeless all over the nation are fighting just to have a roof over their head, a blankets, or a bridge to sleep under.

In Wichita many of the homeless live around the downtown area. Some are chronic homeless while others are just people without jobs. The city last year decided there was no need for a shelter and said maybe a few beds should be added, never saying where they should be added to or giving up and money for the same such beds.

Now they are on a push to revitalize downtown Wichita the area’s where the homeless live. Some have been ticked with no warning in places they have slept for years. The same old thing the police say move on but not saying where to.

You very close to the park and library where some sleep and hang out a thing called the River Walk has moved in. Besides more downtown shops it offers lofts for sale at the cost of a million plus, so the push is one to rid downtown of the homeless so millionaires can live in downtown Wichita without seeing the homeless or God forbid have to give one a dollar.

It is so sad when society will donate money to house cats and dogs, you see a New shelter is being built for them, but will not do anything to help human beings. What happened to the “Love Thy Neighbor” attitude of the people and the church in this country or in this case Wichita? Churches are so involved with building mega churches and ignoring the poor and spending God’s money in vain. Woe to them.

The real sad thing is that if the city would just admit the need there are many millionaires and common folk that would up the money to help or rather build a shelter….but the city does not want to admit the problem therefore no admittance no problem.

We are fighting hard as we care for so many with a big heart. Yes we got in the food bank but unless money comes in for bills I do not know what is going to happen, it truly is in The FATHER’s hands.

While I welcome the end of each month it also brings pain as that mean new bills, this month I face no money for bills, no blankets for the homeless, etc….cold medications are need to be bought now also.

Something that really bothers me, maybe even worse than those that do not help at all, is those that have great resources and once a month or week do a feeding or pass something out, then feel like they are exonerated from doing the right thing. Yes any help is a blessing, but why do churches just not get it, they are supposed to be building people not building as the people are the body of Christ. Woe to you. And yes we have a building but it was built for the people and not for the glory of a man but for the glory to the FATHER.

In His Perfect Peace,

Bro. Dan Pastor of Messiah’s Branch

[...] Although the term “unintended consequences” is not used, that’s the point of the post Downtown push makes homeless more homeless? [...]
